Frédéric D. Oberland is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and photographer. In his practice, he frequently intersects image and sound, drawing on synaesthesia for his compositions. Across his body of work, he explores different forms of narration, for example bridging the honesty and naturalism of documentary with the speculative and imagined reality of myth and poetry. This enables him to examine various notions, from that of kinship, to the sacred, to the monstrous and abstract, and yet also exploring our current political landscape. His practice exists in a dreamlike realm, responding to the revelatory pulses and flashes of electricity which tell us about our world, and illuminate its nature as both mysterious and violent.
