As a painter, Taslima Ahmed (b. 1982 in Liverpool, UK) asks herself questions about which developments are currently changing and renewing this centuries-old cultural technique. The engagement with past epochs, styles and fashions invariably reflects the respective zeitgeist, a socio-political mood, an artistic critique. If one acknowledges this eminently seismographic potential of art, one may also ask what is it then that shapes the portraits of our present.
 
Taslima Ahmed’s work lies at the intersection between digital image production, print techniques and painting. Her works can imitate computer screens, organic materials such as paper or canvas or take the form of sculpture. Everything from media theories to commercials can thereby serve as a starting point for the artist’s investigations of layers, paths, and overlays, some of which circle back to the seamless relationship between our bodies and technology.
