Heavily inspired by his personal archive of memories, whether photographs and images found on the Internet or, more importantly, objects and other photographs from his travels abroad, Yann Lacroix paints landscapes from these materials. The lush appearance of the paintings is reminiscent of the most popular tourist destinations, symptomatic of a desire to reconnect with a lost paradise and, paradoxically, leading to the creation of artificial spaces.
Thanks to the artist's exquisite way of reusing old, used canvases, Lacroix sometimes repaints them and lets the old elements of his paintings float in new compositions. Some of his landscapes are thus populated by ghostly figures, creating a fantastic iconography. What has been erased, recovered or perhaps even rediscovered?
