About Loïc Raguénès
Loïc Raguénès is a painter whose works are representations of rhythmic patterns, atmosphere, sensation and weather. Raguénès often incorporates simple, graphic undulating lines that seem like soundwaves, imbuing each painting with a particular resonance, as well as depicting the visible waves of the ocean. In this sense, the artist’s work can be considered at once figurative and abstract, straddling the boundary that separates the two polarities. The visuality of Raguénès’ paintings – misty, hazy, liminal – as well as their vast scale, gives them an immersive, dreamlike quality. They wash over their viewer, subtly soaking into the skin. Another trademark of the artist’s work are his ‘neo-pointillist’ works, the result of Raguénès digitally manipulating photographs before rendering them with paint. Written by Goldsmiths CCA
