About Lucy Skaer
Informed by environmental and socially engaged art, Lucy Skaer creates works that explore the ways in which the meaning of images and objects can be re-defined through being relocated, altered or reshaped. Working in sculpture, film, print, glass and ceramics, Skaer tests the meaningfulness and significance of cultural signs and symbols within societal consciousness. In times of ecological instability, the artist’s practice points to values being ever-changing, with works being both abstract and figurative, material and conceptual. From ephemeral works in film to monumental sculptures made of raw materials, Skaer proposes utopian potentialities and presents the meaning in flux. Often working collaboratively, the artist works with Rosalind Nashashibi under the name of Nashashibi/Skaer, and is also part of the artist collective Henry VIII’s Wives.
