About Nairy Baghramian
Using materials such as silicon, steel and resin, Iranian artist Nairy Baghramian creates sculptures and installations that investigate both the human body’s relationship with architecture and the limits and capabilities of her medium. She constructs objects that defy one’s preconceived notions of the materials from which they are constructed. The artist’s sculptures – which are often entwined around twisted metal armatures – are at once amorphous and cerebral, while remaining colourful, playful and overtly sensual. Through Baghramian’s explorations of the tacticity and physicality of sculpture within a space, she comprehends and critiques a language of materiality, unshackling objects from their meaning and function.
