About Cerith Wyn Evans
Having abandoned his original interest in experimental filmmaking by the 1990s, Cerith Wyn Evans explores the relationship between light, text, meaning and interpretation through large, site-specific installations. His deeply conceptual installations incorporate ephemeral materials of time, space, light and language to produce a myriad of potential discourses, thereby revealing the fragility of human perceptions of reality. His well-known neon ‘drawings in light’, which include references to Japanese dance-drama Noh Theatre, formulae of chemical compounds and deconstructed quotes, are intricate, shining scribbles in space, unique from every angle from which they can be viewed. Serving as a meeting point between the audience and the artist’s deconstructed inspirations from philosophy, art history, science, literature and film, Wyn Evans’ works are transformative clusters of meaning in visual space.
