About Carl Gent
Working in installation, sculpture, performance, sound and writing, Carl Gent bridges past with present and reality with fiction, creating works around notions of identity, the rural and the human. Gent creates work that “smuggles'' stories from generations, reinventing their truths behind the official chronicles and finding alternative histories. Bexhill, a small seaside town in the south of England when the artist was born and raised, is a recurring theme in their work, with research dedicated to a seemingly erased from history Queen Cynethryth who founded Bexhill in the 8th century. Whether it is an installation with found footage, a mixtape with songs dedicated to a 14th century anchoress, live music performance, Gent’s work is a unique and tender ode for those erased and forgotten.
