About Edward Thomasson
Edward Thomasson works in performance, play, video and drawing to navigate the intricacy of social and sexual interaction. Embracing personal and interpersonal dilemmas in his films and performances, the artist draws on the techniques of storytelling and musical theatre and, in particular, the latter's ability to connect the interior experience with the exterior representation. Thomasson’s subtle ink and watercolours on paper depict humans and bodies in social predicaments at awkward angles. His collaborative projects with artist Lucy Beech explore the social potential of a performative action outside traditional theatre spaces. Engaging with trained and untrained performers and often incorporating a live construction of sound, their choreographed performances resemble therapeutic games and cultivate safe spaces while simultaneously subverting social standards.
