About Elizabeth Price
Elizabeth Price’s moving image picks at the threads that connect social, political and cultural histories. Price’s process often begins with delving into archives before embedding, layering and re-layering archival images and found footage and combining them with text and sound. These aspects are edited simultaneously and bleed into one another. Thematically, Price sets her sights on architecture, artefacts and documents, ‘frequently marginal or derogated things’ and phenomena that reveal ingrained systems of ideology, cultural intricacies and nuance. Price was awarded the 2012 Turner Price for her video installation ‘THE WOOLWORTHS CHOIR OF 1979’, which deftly juxtaposes footage of a fire at a Woolworth's furniture store with photographs of church architecture and clips of pop performances.
