About JJ Chan
JJ Chan works across sculpture, moving images and writing. Their practice is contextualised through the lived experience of everyday reality and ways those experiences shape one’s sense of identity. By incorporating found, manipulated or stolen objects into their installations, Chan creates narratives that land outside the aggression of late capitalism. Their work is exhibited across galleries, nightclubs, house parties and academic conferences, with their writing published in artist publications, academic journals and glossy magazines. Alongside their artistic practice, Chan is also a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Kingston University, London. Chan often collaborates with their friends, neighbours, students and colleagues, exploring the variety of social fabrics and the care and solidarity that unites them.
