About Guadalupe Rosales
In her multidisciplinary practice, Guadalupe Rosales explores senses of belonging and estrangement and collective and embodied experience. Combining community-oriented art with the medium of the archive, the artist continuously documents the Latinx experience in the US. In her archival projects – archived in Instagram accounts of the same names – ‘Veteranas and Rucas’ and ‘Map Pointz’, Rosales invited Chicano/Latinx ephemera to share personal images and stories, creating visual narratives and providing a platform for mis/underrepresented communities and youth in Southern California. At the same time, through sculpture, photography, sound, drawing and video, Rosales orchestrates sensory spaces of inclusion, inviting the audience to share in the experiences that the artist documents, be it the aural experience of cruising in East L.A. or a 1990s club filled with neon light and an altar honouring a victim of gang violence. Rosales’ powerful work directly interferes with the erasure of memory, generating a space of collective memory and healing. Written by Goldsmiths CCA
