About Lauren Gault
Lauren Gault’s work is an interrogation of matter, living environments, and the ethical and socio-political connotations and implications of our interaction with them. To conduct her fieldwork, Gault employs archaeological processes, examinations of contemporary agricultural practices and rewilding policies, and most recently – in C I T H R A (2020) – research into an enigmatic science-fiction text written by Gault’s distant relative and Irish-born explorer, scientist and inventor Martha Craig. Gault’s work on this project, intrinsically shaped by her upbringing in rural Northern Ireland, investigates the complex tensions and interconnections that separate and bind together wildness and domestication. In imagining and sculpting the outcomes of her research, Gault experiments with a multitude of materials, including Lycra fabric, fossils, stained glass, stitched suede and agricultural milk powder, manipulating their formal qualities using tension and pressure.
