About Angela De La Cruz
Angela De La Cruz primarily works with sculpture. Pushing the structural integrity of objects and materials to their breaking point, each sculpture or canvas undergoes a process of near destruction. Aluminium is crushed, cupboards splintered, or a canvas could be uncomfortably stretched or pierced with buckles. Contorted and reborn, the resulting sculptures are cast in bright shells of aquamarine, yellow or red. Taking on a new life, the emotive capacity of the original object is distilled through the act of shapeshifting. Humorous yet resilient, the resulting forms are a joy to encounter. Subverting notions of fragility, these pliable structures offer a refreshing antidote to the immense weight of our fractious and fraught times.
