About Rebecca Horn
Rebecca Horn has established herself as an autonomous and internationally renowned artist, transcending conceptual and minimalist trends since the early 1970s. Her diverse body of work encompasses sculptural environments, installations, drawings, paintings, videos, and performances, and is characterized by abundance, theatricality, sensuality, poetry, feminism, and body art. While her early performances primarily explored the relationship between the human body and space, her later works shifted to the use of kinetic sculptures, replacing the physical presence of the body. Her installations incorporate a range of objects, often custom-made, including violins, suitcases, batons, ladders, pianos, feather fans, metronomes, small metal hammers, black water basins, spiral drawing machines, and enormous funnels. These objects serve as the foundation for her kinetic sculptures, which transcend their material limitations and continually assume ever-changing metaphors, drawing inspiration from mythical, historical, literary, and spiritual imagery. The theme of physical danger, stemming from machines, knives, and electricity, remains a constant thread throughout her oeuvre.
