About Amanda Baldwin
Amanda Baldwin is an American painter who currently lives and works in Queens, NY. Reworking familiar subjects from art history, such as landscapes and the still life, Baldwin’s painterly register transforms these readily recognisable motifs into otherworldly, enchanting tableaux. Mixing and layering different tropes and textures, flower compositions are collaged with mountain vistas, fields, or fruit bowls, with each canvas hosting lush, luminous hues of blues, purples, and greens. Mixing Hyperrealism and Surrealism, the blurry line between disintegration and recognition within her paintings invites audiences to encounter habitual objects and scenes on a more emotive level. By blending art historical references with the contemporary matter of the everyday, Baldwin adds new energy to the canon of still life and landscape painters, breathing fresh life into the memory of painters such as Cézanne, Georgia O’Keefe or Charles Baker.
