About Przemek Pyszczek
Przemek Pyszczek is a polish sculptor who is deeply influenced and fascinated by built environments. Pyszczek was born in Poland in 1985 on the eastern side of the iron curtain, his family relocated to Canada when Pyszczek was an infant, and the artist now lives in Berlin. Traces of all of these different habitats surface in Pyszczek’s work, as he uses sculpture to digest the socio-political make-up of cities. Experimenting with constructivist visual languages and bright colour palettes, Pyszczek sensitively meditates on the complex histories and contemporary realities of different urban sites. The artist has developed two key bodies of work that he continually develops, his ‘Playground’ series and his ‘Facade’ works. Working in a flatter, more painterly register, Pyszczek’s ‘Facade’ sculptures layer lacquered sheets of dibond with steel frames, emulating facades of tower blocks built in post-soviet era Warsaw. His ‘Playground’ pieces sit more firmly within the traditional parameters of sculpture, employing a minimalist aesthetic to concentrate the political resonance of these seemingly playful structures.
