About Wang Changcun
Wang Changcun (ayrtbh) specializes in digital, internet-centric, and algorithmic mediums. Since 2003, both his visual and auditory creations have consistently referenced virtual spatiotemporal frameworks, reflecting the intricacies of static and dynamic within an intersubjective context. His NFT artwork, 'The Internet is so Boring' (2019), presents a series of hollowed-out portraits. Within this digital expanse, viewers are introduced to a collection of figures deeply absorbed in their smartphones, symbolizing the modern individual constantly overwhelmed by a barrage of information. Utilizing the widely recognized hash sha 256-bit algorithm associated with the ipfs peer-to-peer network, the piece secures its permanence as an NFT through a smart contract. While technologically advanced, the artwork resonates with a sense of void and contentlessness. With his signature dark wit, Wang revisits the time-honored vanitas tradition, pausing the dynamic essence of his human-centric subjects. By crafting "transient imagery" as Wang mentioned which bridges the realms of conventional painting and modern filmic/animated techniques, guiding the viewer's attention to the oddities of our contemporary times.
