About Benjamin Echeverria
Benjamin Echeverria explores circle and stripe paintings as dynamic mechanisms that undergo deliberate alterations and manipulations, effectively documenting and capturing the evolving activities within the artist's studio over an extended period of time. During the initial stages, his focus lies not only on the act of painting itself, but also on treating the paintings as physical objects, with an emphasis on the intricate relationship between the artwork and the space it occupies. Preceding their stretching, the paintings undergo a process of dismantling and reassembly, an investigative approach that the artist initially explored through a series of sculptures in 2008.Throughout his development, these canvases are systematically built up, deconstructed, and reconstructed, resulting in a cumulative history that imbues the paintings with various peripheral information. Echeverria describes his daily pursuit within the studio as an ongoing quest for an elusive plan, a viable pathway forward. The plasticity and resistance to containment exhibited by oil paint plays a pivotal role in these works, as each painting becomes a context in which each material's intrinsic will and expressive potential asserts itself.
