About Dorothy Iannone
The late Dorothy Iannone began producing work in the 1960s, and across her lifetime generated a body of work that is centred around intimacy, sexuality, and ecstasy, in tableaux of male and female bodies. Her bright, richly colourful pieces are imbued with a lively and an incredible amount of energy. Her expansive creative output includes painting, drawing, print, video, and objects. Iannone’s universe is one without a fixed temporality, without boundaries and notions of acceptability and taboo. Iannone was unapologetic in her depiction of female sexuality, working to combat the subjugation of women, and the flaws and inequalities within contemporary culture and censorship. The liveness of Iannone’s women crackles on the surface of her works, nothing is holding them back.
