About Alice Aycock
Alice Aycock is an American sculptor and installation artist. She was an early artist in the land art movement in the 1970s. Her early works were semi-architectural sited works constructed of wood and stone, and involved reshaping the earth. During the 1980s, she started work incorporating steel and other components evoking industry to challenge the idea of industrial aesthetics. Her steel works seem against the laws of gravity, floating like tops above the ground. Span over five decades, Aycock's concerns changed variously, from cybernetics, phenomenology, physics, post-structuralism, information overload, scientific discoveries, and computer programming. Aycock’s public sculptures can be found in many major cities in the U.S. and around the world. Her work could always develop its life into artificial environments, bringing different perceptions wherever they are installed.
