Fabiola Gonzales

Fabiola Gonzales primarily works with painting, using a mixture of acrylics, oils and pastel chalks on canvas to create tender portraits of childhood. Drawing on hazy memories of her own early years, the artist works in a vibrant colour palette of vivid blues, neon greens and effervescent yellows. Canvases depict quotidian moments of exchange between childhood pals, while also bringing more high-octane scenes to life such as birthday parties complete with bizarre costumes, opulent cakes and streamers. An immense sense of care is afforded to her subjects, with Gonzales’s loose brushstrokes sensitively depicting portraits of infancy. Gonzales also works with installation, incorporating textile and sculptural components alongside her paintings.
