Nicolas Momein

The artist Nicolas Momein creates sculptures in which the manufacturing process plays a central role. His interest in different types of materials and manufactured objects has naturally led him to consider the conditions under which they are produced, drawing on the knowledge of craftsmen, workers, farmers, etc. He positions himself as close as possible to these working gestures in order to immerse himself in and record the acts that shape and transform matter into products. The close contact of two materials with opposite characteristics - from a rough paste, where the traces of the modelling gesture are visible, to the smoothness of the industrial material – often recurs in Momein's work and gives rise to a tenfold haptic perception of the materials.
