About Anna-Sophie Berger
Anna-Sophie Berger uses a variety of media in her artworks including sculpture, collage and film. Berger is influenced by structuralism and she aims to reveal the multifunctionality of ordinary items, both aesthetically and their wider cultural significance. In her work, she often incorporates materials such as textiles, printed matter, food and everyday objects such as burlap, concrete, cardboard, and thread. Through her use of juxtaposition and the reappropriation of everyday objects, Berger's work explores themes of destruction, domination, and precarity in modern society. In her video work, Berger combines her own footage with found extracts from classic movies, advertising, and animation to create contemporary portraits of major cities around the world - revealing the political and social instability of these inhabited zones as a portrait of life in major cities around the world.
