About José Luis Arroyo Robles
He pursued his studies in art and design at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the University of Oregon. His artistic focus encompasses the intersections of architecture, history, and geography. Arroyo-Robles employs a diverse range of materials and disciplines, including photography, installation, and carpentry, to craft immersive atmospheres that explore environmental transformation and its implications across different locations and latitudes. In 2023, he was awarded the Holt Smithson Foundation Research Grant and the Magnum Foundation Photography Expanded Fellowship. In 2022, he received the Best Portfolio Award at the Mexico International Photography Festival. In 2018, he earned the Filmoteca UNAM Award for the short film "Esteban Cortés" (co-produced with Oscar Galeote and Elesban Molina). In 2017, he obtained third place in the Documentary Contest Ethnographic Fiorenzo Serra, organized by the Visual Anthropology Laboratory of the University of Sassari in Italy, with the documentary "Voces entre la urdimbre y la ropa" (co-produced with Oscar Galeote). Currently, Arroyo-Robles co-directs Aberrante, an artist-run space dedicated to contemporary art projects in Mexico.
