Madison Bycroft

Madison Bycroft (lives and works in Marseille, FR) is an Australian artist and performer. They are graduates from the University of South Australia in 2013 (Adelaide, AUS) and the MFA program at the Piet Zwart Institute in 2016 (Rotterdam, NL). Working in comprehensive installations that bond performance, text, film, sculpture, drawing, painting and ceramic, Madison Bycroft’s theoretical and visual work allow them to stage composite, unstable identities.Their theoretical and visual work involves media installations that continually question ‘floating’, ‘anti-portrait’, and ‘opacity’, using the words of Édouard Glissant. Working on fluidity as a doorway to a new understanding of nature and humanity that eludes normative categories, they stage composite, unstable identities, the result of mixes, remixes, translations, contaminations and other combinations, multiplying historical, contemporary, mythological and popular references.
