Hoa Dung Clerget (b. 1985, France) lives and works in the UK. She holds a Masters in Painting from Royal College of Art and BA Hons in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins.
Clerget’s practice is centred on the artisanal production of objects that take on a narrative dimension on the themes of the domestic and displacement. Her works affirm their materiality through gestures borrowed from everyday life, the ones of the women in her family and community.

Despite her Vietnamese heritage, Hoa Dung Clerget would consider her practice to be more informed by receiving her education in France. Yet, her multicultural background plays a significant role in her practice, as illustrated by the way in which she transforms objects. Her family traditions and history are ingrained into the fabric of the domestic objects that she employs for her compositions, and how she shapes her voice as an artist. Despite the relatively simple nature of her chosen objects, the canon of art history and Minimalism are notable reference points. By employing objects associated with domestic spaces, Clerget is able to create narratives which connect people across continents and cultures, and explore the hybridity of the environments and spaces inhabited and created by diasporic families.
