About Cheyenne Julien
Cheyenne Julien’s practice navigates the boundary between personal experiences and collective histories. Often derived from memory, Julien’s paintings and drawings portray intimate subjects inspired by her closest relationships and life in New York City. Her work highlights the interdependency of bodies and their contexts, asserting the power of built environments to dictate racial perception. More recently, Julien has expanded her visual vocabulary beyond her characteristic portraiture to include landscapes and still lifes, using inanimate objects that carry traces of human presence to communicate similar existential perspectives.
