About Anna Sew Hoy
Anna Sew Hoy is an artist who is recognized for her sculptural work, performances and public art. Her sculptures challenge traditional ideas about materials and form. She has been instrumental in pushing the potential of ceramics in the field of contemporary art. Sew Hoy is skilled at using unconventional materials such as safety pins, denim jeans, and other daily objects alongside clay to create intricate and dynamic compositions. The clay in her work is often glazed, flocked, or sheathed, and the fabric may be stamped or perforated. Adept at combining hard and soft materials in unexpected ways, her sculptures are bodily and humorous, familiar and strange. Sew Hoy has exhibited internationally, and her work is included in numerous collections, such as Hammer Museum, SFMOMA, LACMA.
