Biography

Adham Faramawy utilises a multitude of media – from computer programmes to print, from performance to perfume, and from poetry and spoken word to dance and movement – to communicate concepts and notions relating to technology and the digital age. Faramawy discusses how culture is mediated and consumed through technology, how perceptions of the body are formed, and specifically, how technology is an agent for identity construction and embodiment. The artist is interested in disrupting and reinventing linear narratives and creating mesmerising, often surreal worlds that offer alternative perspectives. Faramawy remarks that their work is “about bodies, but it’s also about who’s looking. We still take the male gaze for granted. What happens if we posit a queer subject position? Queerness isn’t one thing, or one type of person. For me this means making work that can accommodate a lot of perspectives.” ...
