Athen Kardashian & Nina Mhach Durban

Athen (b. 2000) & Nina (b. 2001) are a British-Asian artist duo based in London. Their collaborative practice is founded on an open and ongoing dialogue examining their shared experience of being raised in London by Indian mothers. Community noticeboards reminiscent of schools, offices and social clubs serve as sculptures onto which the duo curate their collection of found images and assorted ephemera, pictures and trinkets engaging conversations surrounding family, displacement and migration. By utilising glamorous Bollywood headshots alongside domestic objects, Athen & Nina reminisce on matriarchal upbringings, diasporic femininity and the nostalgic impulse to reflect upon one’s teenagehood. ...
