Brett Cody Rogers
Biography
Abstraction comes alive in Brett Cody Rogers’ work, where layered, delicate paint and gestural brushwork create shifting, immersive planes. The translucency of his surfaces creates depth, inviting the viewer to peer through overlapping gestures and shifting planes. His paintings explore the tension between representation and abstraction, using color, form, and movement to generate spaces that exist entirely through paint, free from the physical constraints of architecture or reality. Rogers’ practice often draws inspiration from architectural history and interior design, reinterpreting spaces and structures through the lens of painting. He is fascinated by the potential of paint to destabilize surfaces, to dissolve solidity and conventional order, and to create luminous, self-contained environments. Rich in color and gestural energy, his compositions juxtapose geometric forms with expressive brushwork, producing dynamic, atmospheric spaces where light appears to emerge from the canvas itself. Through these layered, transformative surfaces, Rogers navigates the intersection of abstraction, memory, and spatial experience, conjuring environments that are simultaneously familiar and disorienting, bridging architecture, narrative, and the purely painterly. ...
