Biography

Through his works in film, video and installation, Diego Marcon investigates and challenges the ontology of the moving image. By combining contemporary theoretical studies of moving images, CGI and special effects with traditional, popular film genres of horror, slapstick comedy, cartoons and stop motion, Marcon creates uncanny collages of cinema and artistic film. The results depict distorted realities and archetypes of human nature that is both pure and wicked, ambiguous and straightforward. At times, his films leak into the exhibition spaces in which they are screened, incorporating an exhibition design that reflects and accentuates the works’ essence. By creating video works at the intersection of a somewhat forceful distinction between art and cinema, Marcon questions that dichotomy and, on a bigger scale, the essence of screen-based production of knowledge. ...
