Jordan Nassar
Biography
Jordan Nassar is interested in using craft and embroidery to unpick and restitch notions of ethnicity, heritage and identity. He adopts the geometric patterning found in traditional Palestinian embroidery, giving it a contemporary inflexion tinged with nostalgia. The bright, vibrant and fantastical renderings are almost reminiscent of postcards, idealised vignettes sent to loved ones overseas. Nassar has co-produced several works with female weavers working in Ramallah, West Bank, and in a recent installation reconstructed an apartment within which every object was made in close collaboration between the artist and local craftspeople throughout the world. ...
