Biography

Through video, sound, installation, performances and instances in which the mediums intertwine in idiosyncratic ways, Laure Prouvost explores language and its limitations, miscommunication and the state of being lost in translation. Turner Prize (2013) winner and artist representing the French Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, Prouvost creates works inspired by their environment, intertwining human and natural elements amidst humorous word play. Using words, images, personal histories and artistic and literary references as her tools, Prouvost creates kaleidoscopic films rich with quick edits and storytelling, wittingly juxtaposing text and image. The films are often screened alongside immersive installations that incorporate sculptures, found objects, furniture and assemblages. Seductive and lush, Prouvost’s works continuously pull the audience into their immersive, unruly imagination ...
