His works explore the potential for reconnection between humans and the universe, often reflecting on existential and metaphysical questions. Central to Lu’s practice is his investigation of human belief systems, particularly traditional Nuo rituals, and their resonance with modern technology. He experiments with artificial intelligence not as a novelty but as a tool to examine parallels between contemporary life’s reliance on technology and the ritualistic, sacrificial practices that have shaped human history. Images and texts generated through AI are integrated into his work, producing compositions that echo Surrealist explorations of the unconscious. Lu Pingyuan’s work invites reflection on the intersections between the primitive and the advanced, imitation and creation, and the human relationship with time, belief, and the cosmos.
