Biography

Manuela García shapes sound into immersive experiences, from sculptures and soundscapes to DJ sets and collaborative listening events, inviting audiences into attentive, shared encounters. Her practice explores narrative, memory, diaspora, and unofficial archives, approaching each project from a critically informed perspective that highlights overlooked histories and subtle sonic textures. García’s work transforms listening into a space of reflection, connection, and discovery. Her work investigates liminal spaces activated by sound, the sonic as a site of transformation, temporality, and the use of water as a sonic archive, as well as ways of attuning to human and non-human presences. García’s practice seeks to challenge imposed hierarchies and habitual structures, proposing alternative modes of collective living, remembering, and imagining shared experiences. Drawing on both academic research and her experience as a DJ, her compositions integrate music and sound archives, field recordings, audio effects, and her own voice. Techniques such as looping, echo, repetition, and juxtaposition allow her to create immersive sonic environments that evoke memory, provoke reflection, and open spaces for dialogue and communal engagement. ...
