Biography

Masha Silchenko integrates drawing, sculpture, and painting on canvas, generating a vibrant dialogue between forms that explore myths, beliefs, dreams, and nightmares with sensitivity and narrative depth. Spanning various media—including painting, ceramics, installation, and performance—she merges experimental methods like bleaching, erasing, tearing, and stitching with poetic storytelling to convey themes of love, longing, and loss. Her art centers on introspective themes, dreamlike visions, and fantastical connections. Silchenko’s drawings and paintings often depict the night as a refuge for mystical entities, where ghostly figures become silent companions. Her fragile ceramic sculptures, frequently adorned with eyes and wings, evoke a sense of vulnerability and otherworldliness. Recurring images of solitary houses with dimly lit windows, set amid shadowy foliage, add to the atmospheric quality of her work. Silchenko’s exploration of visibility and invisibility, as well as her deep engagement with light and shadow, is reflected both in her motifs and her choice of materials. She incorporates poetic texts and stories onto canvas using bleach, layering these with glazed paint to create textured surfaces. By weaving together ceramics, illustration, and tapestry techniques, she constructs a unique realm of enchanting figures. ...
