Nina Canell

The practice of Swedish artist Nina Canell sheds light on immaterial, intangible forces and relations between objects. Her sculptures objectify these invisible transfers, expressed in tangible form. Canell’s practice, which often involves electrical currents, is informed by how energy is negotiated, interrupted and displaced. The artist is interested in how her sculptures can act as conduits that move, transmit and extend the energy that runs through them. Canell mixes electricity with sound and solid matter and plays with weight and gravity, with many sculptures appearing suspended in space, unconstrained and liberated.
