Philipp Timischl

Philipp Timischl amalgamates equivalent forms of display to create pictures of heightened affect and reflexivity. Canvases, screens, windows and walls are aligned, collaged and automated to construct outputs of distinct subjectivities. Obsessively sourcing elements of per- sonal and found ephemera, Timischl creates narrative voices that manoeuver between docu- mentation and fiction, often through intimacy and self-reference. Steeped in semiotic shifts and visual leaps, the works constitute both subject and setting, occasionally drawing you into a narrative or speaking directly at you as a presence, voicing thoughts on heritage, exclusion, queerness, social classes and the dynamics of power between art, the artist and the public. Exis- ting in choreographed existential loops, Timischl’s works sharply render the mediated nature of contemporary subjectivity and the unsayable boundaries of our collective public sphere. ...
