Biography

Rirkrit Tiravanija is a highly esteemed artist who is renowned for his innovative and interdisciplinary approach to art-making. He incorporates a wide variety of media, including painting, printmaking, video, photography, mixed-media assemblage, and music. His practice is characterised by a rejection of traditional art objects in favour of participatory installations, public and private performances, teaching, and other forms of public service and social action. Central to Tiravanija's artistic vision is a desire to bring people together and foster communal connections through the sharing of personal and collective traditions. This approach has been described as "relational aesthetics" and reflects a shift in avant-garde art practices in the 1990s towards incorporating diverse cultural spaces, practices, and temporalities.
