Biography

Silvia Giambrone’s work powerfully interrogates the body, identity, and gendered violence, transforming everyday materials and gestures into provocative, immersive experiences. She approaches art as a vehicle to expose and question the physical and psychological dimensions of oppression, particularly within domestic and social contexts. Her practice moves fluidly between performance, installation, sculpture, video, and sound, adapting to the conceptual demands of each project. Giambrone often draws on feminist theory, notably the writings of Carla Lonzi, to examine power dynamics, subjectification, and the normalization of violence in everyday life. Her work transforms familiar domestic objects, bodily gestures, and immersive environments into critical instruments that reveal hidden social structures and challenge entrenched stereotypes. Her artworks employ a rigorous combination of material, movement, and sensory engagement to provoke reflection and participation. By creating situations that are at once intimate and confrontational, she fosters awareness of both individual and collective experiences of power and vulnerability. Through this approach, Giambrone positions her art as a space for reflection, critique, and transformation, highlighting the social, political, and emotional dimensions of contemporary life while continuing the lineage of feminist and activist artistic practices. ...
