Tam Ochiai
Biography
Tam Ochiai’s practice is defined by its versatility and experimental nature, spanning film, artist books, drawing, painting, installation, photography, and sculpture. He avoids a single personal style, embracing a wide range of visual strategies to explore human experience and perception. Many of his works feature childlike renderings of human, often female, figures, where the expressive simplicity of the form conveys emotional depth. In his installations, Ochiai treats the exhibition space as an extension of the work, integrating walls and surroundings into the visual narrative. Other projects are research-driven, such as video documentation of journeys, or deconstructions of objects and texts, which he rearranges to reveal new relationships and meanings. Through these approaches, Ochiai balances playfulness with conceptual rigor, creating works that are at once intimate and intellectually engaging. His art constantly shifts between media and strategies, resulting in a practice that challenges conventions, questions assumptions, and invites viewers into a world of layered imagery and thoughtful experimentation. ...
