Biography

Tom Hallet’s artistic journey is driven by a profound search for representation and acknowledgment. He connects his existence to that of his ancestors by unraveling the ambiguities and gaps within established histories—questioning how identity can be affirmed if one’s predecessors remain invisible. His practice bridges drawing and sculpture, creating an ongoing dialogue between the two mediums and the audience around themes of queer identity, love, violence, and loss. His drawings act as intimate messages addressed to lovers, family, queer icons, and their adversaries. They depict richly detailed, imaginative landscapes where human forms merge with dense natural elements, shifting between abstraction and figuration. Complementing these, Hallet’s sculptures take diverse shapes—some resembling skin-like forms filled with soil that allow weeds to sprout, others growing organically like fungal structures from walls. Scattered stone sculptures and taxidermy birds, untitled and mysterious, emerge like silent omens within exhibition spaces. Though his work confronts moments of pain and struggle, it ultimately offers a hopeful reflection on the narratives we construct about identity, social frameworks, and history. ...
