Biography

Shin Min focuses on unraveling the complexities of labor, gender, and class issues through her practice. Born out of personal experiences in high-intensity service jobs and low-wage labor within large corporations, Shin Min's work delves into the harsh realities faced by service workers and female labourers at large. She begins with solid conceptualisation and experiments with miniature models to gauge their potential for realization, utilizing symbols like hairnets and uniforms to highlight the challenges faced by service workers and female labourers. Her preference for clear, reasoned concepts over unconscious inspiration enables her to present reality in a more tangible and impactful way. Through her practice, she raises awareness and advocates for better working conditions and social change. Shin Min graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical and system design engineering from Hong-ik University and has worked in Seoul. She will hold a solo exhibition at P21 in April, and has had solo exhibitions at Incheon Art Platform, Incheon (2017); Seogyo Art Experiment Center, Seoul (2015); Place Mak, Seoul (2014). She also participated in group exhibitions at various institutions, including the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale, Changwon (2024); SEMA Buk Seoul, Seoul (2024); Jeonbuk Province Art Museum, Jeonbuk(2024); MOCA, Busan (2023). As a guest performer with Trust Dance Theater (2006-2008), she directed and performed in several projects, including 'I can't STOP!', Samil-ro Changgo Theater, Seoul (2022); 'Documentary Theater - Inhale, Exhale, Hold', Incheon Art Platform, Incheon (2016). Her works are included in the collection of Jeonbuk Province Art Museum, Mirae High School of Science and Technology, and Ulsan Nodong 1987.
