Aycoobo-Wilson Rodríguez
B.1967, Colombian

Weaving together Indigenous cosmology with present-day concerns, Aycoobo-Wilson Rodríguez creates art that bridges ancestral knowledge and contemporary experience. Raised within the Huitoto community, he draws on teachings about Amazonian plants and shamanic practices to develop a unique visual language reflecting the complexities of identity, displacement, and spiritual connection. His work is primarily composed of vivid, large-scale drawings that use intense colors and dynamic forms to evoke visionary states inspired by ayahuasca ceremonies. These images serve as portals to spiritual realms often hidden from everyday awareness, encouraging viewers to reconsider their relationship with nature and the unseen forces that shape existence. Rodríguez’s practice challenges Western separations between nature and culture, emphasizing their inseparability in Indigenous worldviews. By reconnecting lineage, territory, and collective memory, his art preserves traditional knowledge while engaging with contemporary global dialogues. Through this blend of ritual and innovation, Rodríguez invites audiences to experience a profound synthesis of ecology, spirituality, and identity. ...

Instituto de Vision is a Bogotá and New York based gallery for conceptual practices. Directed by three women, Instituto de Vision gives special attention to female voices, queer theories, environmental activism, the conflicts of migration, and other critical positions that challenge the established order. Using the international art scene as a platform, they are committed to give visibility and expand the work of artists that reveal critical realities and raise important questions for these contemporary subjects. ...
