Clément Rodzielski
B.1979, French

Clément Rodzielski’s ways of seeing are fundamental to his practice, like many of his contemporaries, Rodzielski has a keen eye, he carefully selects the existing images from which he works. His utilisation of found images has the intention of revealing the ways in which they are constructed and circulated. His image selection is particularly focused on those images which are ever-present, but we do not necessarily take note of, such as internet motifs, or those images which no longer circulate, vintage film posters, for example. From viewing these images, he draws out recurring symbols, iconography, or motifs, and through varying methods (wallpainting, cut-outs, collage, photocopies, stencil, spray paint), he recontextualises and reframes them so they are more visible and more recognisable. He seeks to illuminate the materiality of these images. By abstracting his subjects and removing them from their context, Rodzielski is able to place better emphasis on their pictorial nature. His practice often involves creating numerous series, in order to extract the maximum number of possibilities. ...
