In David Noonan’s work, which intersperses film, painting, collage, sculpture, installation and tapestry, a central characteristic is the intricate weaving of found historical and contemporary images. Noonan is interested in exploring temporalities, and liminal spaces; non-linear time and the interaction and relationship between the figurative and the abstract; and the notions of contradiction, ambiguity and the in-between. Frequently employing monochrome colour palettes in the construction of his compositions, this enables Noonan to directly reference and engage with his source material, and present a minimal, singular aesthetic. Key to Noonan’s practice is an exploration of the ways in which materials relate to each other, the ways the act when together, and how they influence each other. What this generates is a harmony between the material and visual which plays a significant role in shaping his creative output. ...
