Description
Human-crafted. AI-refined.

This large-scale sculptural installation features a monstrous green creature with a gaping, jagged mouth and oversized eyes. The striking visual elements include the vibrant green drapery that envelops the entire structure, creating a sense of enclosure and tension. The menacing, almost sinister subject matter suggests a fantastical, otherworldly creature, evoking a sense of unease and the unknown. The skilled craftsmanship and imaginative use of materials demonstrate the artist's distinctive surreal and provocative style. This work likely comments on the duality of human nature, exploring themes of fear, vulnerability, and the subconscious. ...

Monster Chetwynd
1973 , British

Monster Chetwynd, previously known as Marvin Gaye Chetwynd and Spartacus Chetwynd, is a Turner Prize-nominated performance artist who works in performance, sculpture, installation, video and painting. Chetwynd’s video and performance works often involve handmade props and costumes, and employ the artist’s friends and relatives as performers. A keen gatherer of source material, Chetwynd’s influences are diverse and unpredictable. Just some names from a broad list of citations include Chaucer’s 'The Canterbury Tales', Doris Lessing’s novel 'The Grass Is Singing', Milton’s 'Paradise Lost', and Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 Studio Ghibli-animated 'My Neighbor Totoro'. Chetwynd remixes, restages and repurposes historical cultural events through the lens of these references, making her audience question the limits of interpretation, authenticity and originality, as well as the blurred line between fiction and reality. Sadie Coles HQ is a London-based contemporary art gallery representing around fifty international artists. The gallery opened in 1997, with an inaugural exhibition of new paintings by American painter John Currin presented in parallel with an offsite show by British artist Sarah Lucas, The Law, at St John Street. This pairing established the international breadth of the gallery's programme, which has since expanded over the past two decades. Since its inception, Sadie Coles HQ has operated from a variety of spaces; most recently mounting offsite shows in Los Angeles and Mayfair in 2020 with a significant new video installation by Martine Syms. In September 2013, Sadie Coles HQ opened its largest space at 62 Kingly Street in Soho, as well as a second space at 1 Davies Street in Mayfair designed by 6a Architects in 2015, and a third space at 8 Bury Street in St James’s in April 2021. ...
