Kayode Ojo
Performed Imaginaries
Imagine the self as a rehearsal—each gesture a trial, each appearance a shifting draft. Through blurred figures, hybrid personas, and narrative ambiguity, these artists reveal identity as something continually shaped by perception and context. In Performed Imaginaries, the self emerges not as a fixed truth but as an ever-changing performance, fluid, uncertain, and always in the process of becoming.

Kayode Ojo’s practice unfolds in the charged space between desire and display, where objects shimmer with the promise of glamour yet reveal the mechanics that produce it. Working fluidly across sculpture, installation, photography, and video, he gathers mass-produced items—mirrored surfaces, chandeliers, evening wear, jewelry—as if assembling a backstage of seduction. In Ojo’s hands, these consumer artifacts become characters in a theater of aspiration: poised, glinting, and slightly aloof. Their arrangements, at once precise and decadent, suspend viewers in a mood of looking where pleasure and critique entwine. Each object carries the weight of status, yet also the hollowness of its own marketing, turning desire itself into a gleaming, unstable silhouette.
